You close your laptop, but you're still thinking about your tasks and emails. You take a quick peek at your inbox, and before you know it, you're either working after hours for free or stressing about tomorrow. You keep telling yourself you'll chill out when things slow down, but we both know that's never gonna happen. You work in tech.
Your discipline isn't the problem. It's your system, or lack thereof. The tools we use for tech are built to keep us perpetually online, so creating boundaries feels impossible. But it isn't.
I'm one of you. IT, wrist brace from tendonitis, protecting my eyes from blue light all day. The job can suck, physically and mentally. About a year ago, during a rough go-live, I wanted to quit more than once. If I had to go through that again, I'd know exactly how to handle it, because of the changes I've made since. I stopped dreading 5pm. I stopped hearing a Teams ping and mentally clocking back in. I built an actual system for it. That system is this course.
The Sane Tech Worker's OS is a set of rules, scripts, and habits for IT pros, engineers, developers, and remote tech workers who want to stop checking notifications at 8:12pm without getting fired or becoming "that unreliable coworker." Not vague mindfulness advice. The actual settings, scripts, and habits I use myself.
Log off and actually mean it. The exact notification setup I use (what to kill entirely, what to batch, what to leave on) so your phone stops feeling like a leash. Includes the specific Outlook, Teams, and Slack settings, not just turn off notifications.
Stop dreading your inbox. A batching method to cut how often you open your email client from all day to a handful of set check ins, plus the exact unsubscribe, filter, and rule cleanup that keeps your inbox from clogging back up.
Say no without getting fired. Word for word scripts for declining optional meetings, pushing back on urgent pings that aren't, and setting response time expectations your coworkers will actually respect.
Get it out of your head. The pen and paper task system that replaces digital to do apps, so work stops following you into bed at 2am.
Keep it from falling apart. A short weekly check in ritual, because none of this sticks as a one time cleanup.
All future updates included, free.

This is for you if: you're salaried, working in tech, and have some control over your notifications and response times. That's most IT, dev, and engineering roles, even if it doesn't feel that way yet.
This probably won't help if: you're on call 24/7 with zero flexibility. Some of this will still apply. Not all of it will.

I'm on call a lot. Will this still work for me? Some of it. The notification and email batching stuff has to flex around your reality, and the response scripts and weekly reset still apply either way.
Is this just videos, or do I actually have to do something? You have to implement it. There's a workbook with checklists, but watching without doing means nothing changes.
How fast will I see a difference? Notification and email changes are immediate. The bigger mental shift takes a few weeks of sticking to it.
Do I need any specific apps or tools? No required purchases. Everything works with whatever email client and phone you already have.
